After just 5weeks of share purchase meetings, Nyame Nti VSLA, one of the Power to the Fishers Project (PTF) formed VSLAs, has raised GHS 3,190. Located in the Senya Bereku community of the Awutu Senya District, Nyame Nti VSLA has a membership of 26 (both men and women) and meets every Wednesday at 10:00 GMT prompt to purchase shares.

Having their share value at 10 cedis, the women purchase a minimum of 1 share and a maximum of 5 shares per meeting. Members are elated at how small collective efforts can yield much in a short time. They cannot wait for their first loan meeting which will be held in the next 3 weeks as a number of them plan on borrowing flexibly from the saved funds and investing it in their fish trade.

Hope Ander, the assistant record keeper indicated:

I can’t believe we could save that much within this short period. We always complain of not having money and ill-motivated to save. I now understand that it is about having your mind made up and having the right people around you. Looking at the funds I have recorded in our books, I am so happy to part of the group”.
