CERATH Development Organization (CDO) has been subcontracted under the Renewed Women’s Voice and Leadership (RWVL) Project grant to implement the Advancing Women’s Voice and Leadership in Post‑Harvest Fisheries initiative. This 3‑year project (2026–2029) seeks to empower marginalized women in Ghana’s small‑scale fisheries (SSF) post‑harvest sector, particularly helpers and carriers, by strengthening their agency, leadership, and participation in fisheries governance.

Project Goal

The project seeks to increase the participation of women fisherfolk, especially the most marginalized, in decision‑making processes within local fisheries governing bodies in Ghana’s Central and Western regions by 2029.

Key Objectives

  • Establish community‑level forums that allow women helpers and carriers to share perspectives, access information, and influence fisheries policies.
  • Build the capacities of women in leadership, advocacy, and organizing, while supporting the adoption of a 20% women’s leadership quota in local fisheries governance structures.

Expected Results

  • Improved visibility and voice for marginalized women in fisheries governance.
  • Strengthened community cohesion and organizing among helpers and carriers.
  • Gender‑responsive and inclusive fisheries structures that recognize and protect the rights of women in the SSF post‑harvest sector.
  • Long‑term shifts in attitudes and practices toward gender equality and women’s leadership in fisheries governance.
