The Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP), funded by the European Union, has commenced community awareness creation activities across the coastal districts of Sinoe County.
The exercise is being carried out through local civil society organizations (also called beneficiary organizations—BOs) who serve as community-level implementers of the Collaborative Management Association (CMA) formation process. The awareness drive begins with community entry meetings targeting local leadership structures—traditional authorities, lead fisherfolk chiefs, and youth representatives—before extending to the general populace and fisherfolk groups in each community.

The focus of these engagements is to sensitize communities on the CMA concept, its guiding principles, and the roles of stakeholders in fisheries co-management. By doing so, the project seeks to foster inclusivity, participation, and ownership in fisheries resource governance at the community and county level.

This set of activities marks a key step in laying the groundwork for the establishment of a functional CMA in Sinoe County. The CMA is expected to strengthen democratic governance in the fisheries sector, promote sustainable resource use, and enhance the livelihoods of fisherfolk and their households.
