Fish processing as a business does not thrive solely on converting fish to processed products but its long-term success, as with every other business, requires the adoption of good business management practices. It is for this reason that the PowertotheFishers project embarked on a series of training on enterprise development for fish processors.
During the sessions held, fish processors were given the opportunity to share their experiences and approaches they employ in running their businesses. In making the sessions interactive, the project team organized participants into groups to brainstorm and compete amongst each other.
Topics treated include record keeping, mobilizing finances through credit, calculating profit and loss, marketing channels, and managing business risks. Judith Ayittey, a beneficiary of the project, shared her views on the training held in Winneba. She said;
“The training has helped me gain adequate knowledge in business management. I am optimistic that it would help me expand my fish processing business”
The project has so far trained ninety (90) fish processors from the Winneba, Woarabeba, Akosua Village, and Senya Bereku communities located in the Effutu and Awutu Senya districts.
