The Liberia Fisheries Governance Project, this past month, conducted institutional capacity sessions for its seven beneficiary organizations (BO), comprising five local Civil Society Organizations and two media entities. The week-long capacity sessions focused on gender equity & social inclusion (GESI), leadership, project management cycle, M&E, and proposal writing.

The objective of the training was to equip the BOs with key insights on the above areas. These key insights will then be employed by the BOs to enhance their respective institutional processes and to employ best practices in the conduct of LFGP-related endeavours within the project communities.

The GESI session emphasized the importance of gender empowerment, particularly for individuals from underrepresented groups. The leadership component highlighted the value of adopting a servant leadership style, along with other leadership approaches, to effectively manage the complexities of development initiatives.
In the session on project management cycle, the focus was on optimizing processes to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives. The M&E session stressed the necessity of systematic data collection and analysis to inform decision-making and enhance project effectiveness. Furthermore, the proposal development component aimed to strengthen the sustainability of BOs by improving their capacity to mobilize resources and secure future funding opportunities.

Leveraging the training and topics discussed, the BOs get to position themselves as strong viable local institutions and create an enduring impact within beneficiary communities.
