The Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP) hosted an MoU signing ceremony with seven Beneficiary Organizations (BOs) to strengthen collaboration and ensure effective project implementation. These agreements outline the commitments and expectations of both parties, ensuring a structured approach to capacity-building and project execution. Under the MoU, the project will provide the BOs with critical support, including capacity-building programs focused on operational and managerial efficiency, the establishment of Collaborative Management Associations (CMAs), livelihood support services, and community-based financing schemes. Additionally, training on ethical media reporting and the use of digital tools for advocacy will be conducted to enhance the BOs’ ability to drive change. Beyond training, the project will also extend financial support through grants, offer technical assistance and resource supply, and coordinate BO activities to ensure effective implementation of project goals.
In return, the BOs are expected to actively participate in all capacity-building sessions and apply the acquired knowledge to support the project’s objectives. Their key roles include facilitating the establishment of CMAs, advocating for the participation of women and marginalized groups in the coastal economy, and leading media campaigns that promote inclusive fisheries governance and fisherfolk rights. By leveraging their enhanced capacities, the BOs will contribute to the sustainability and effectiveness of the project, ensuring that local communities are empowered and engaged in fisheries resource management.
Furthermore, the BOs are required to uphold key responsibilities that ensure accountability and visibility for the project and its stakeholders. These include providing technical reports on activities undertaken, maintaining financial accountability for any resources received, and conducting all project-related interactions ethically. Additionally, the BOs will play a vital role in amplifying the visibility of the donor (EU), the Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP), and the implementing partners, ensuring that the project’s impact is well-documented and communicated to stakeholders. Through these mutual commitments, the project and BOs will work collaboratively to drive sustainable and inclusive fisheries governance in Liberia.
