The Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP) hosted an MoU signing ceremony with seven Beneficiary Organizations (BOs) to strengthen collaboration and ensure effective project implementation. These agreements outline the commitments and expectations of both parties, ensuring a structured approach to capacity-building and project execution. Under the MoU, the project will provide the BOs with critical support, including capacity-building programs focused on operational and managerial efficiency, the establishment of Collaborative Management Associations (CMAs), and community-based financing schemes. Additionally, training on ethical media reporting and the use of digital tools for advocacy will be conducted to enhance the BOs’ ability to drive change.
In return, the BOs are expected to actively participate in all capacity-building sessions and apply the acquired knowledge to support the project’s objectives. Their key roles include facilitating the establishment of CMAs, advocating for the participation of women and marginalized groups in the coastal economy, and leading media campaigns that promote inclusive fisheries governance and fisherfolk rights. By leveraging their enhanced capacities, the BOs will contribute to the sustainability and effectiveness of the project, ensuring that local communities are empowered and engaged in fisheries resource management.
Furthermore, the BOs are required to uphold key responsibilities that ensure accountability and visibility for the project and its stakeholders. Through these mutual commitments, the project and BOs will work collaboratively to drive sustainable and inclusive fisheries governance in Liberia.
