CERATH Development Organization (CDO) in Liberia is implementing the 36 months Liberia Fisheries Governance Project (LFGP) funded by the European Union. As part of the initial activities toward the launch and implementation of the project, the project team initiated a series of introductory meetings and community engagements from the 3rd to 30th of April, 2024.
The primary objective of these engagements were to increase public awareness about the project, build synergy with key sector stakeholders, and inform them about an upcoming baseline study crucial for guiding the project’s implementation strategy.
The key stakeholders engaged during these activities included the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), UN-FAO, the Blue Ocean Project team from Conservation International, the Liberia Sustainable Fisheries Management Project (LSFMP) funded by the World Bank, and 5 fishing communities in Sinoe County. During these engagements, the LFGP project goals, and objectives were emphasized while simultaneously examining prospective collaborations with other stakeholders within the fisheries sector. These meetings served as a platform to highlight the LFGP’s goals and objectives and explore potential collaborations within the fisheries sector.
In a bid to ensure extensive coverage and broad-based participation, the project team is set to extend these engagements to encompass more fishing communities within the project’s landscape. This project marks the beginning of a transformative journey for Liberia’s fisheries sector, steered by the LFGP and its dedicated team.
